Town 5 Mile Oak 2
Tom Addems Toby Collins Ben (not Ben Davies, the other Ben) Wilf Holman No 16 (sorry!)
HT 0-1
Despite the adverse conditions (high wind, blustery rain, eccentric referee) both sides contributed to an entertaining match enjoyed by some 40 hardy souls
Town again came out for the second half 1-0 behind after a bit of an iffy first half, but 5 minutes later were 2-1 up. Despite an equaliser from Mile Oak, Town showed obdurate defence, speed through midfield and finishing that was clinical enough to ensure that Charlie Francis (who suffered a painful first half injury that was laughed at by many) was not missed too much
Charlie (good natured as ever) appeared to enjoy the joke

It was the original game of two halves. Town seemed out of sorts and fractious in the first half, getting worked up over what they saw as unjust decisions given against them. I thought at one point that they were losing concentration. They were different again in the second half, strong in defence and enterprising in attack and thoroughly deserved their win. Great result!

Ben (not Ben Davies, the other Ben) No 16 (sorry!) The Ben, was Ben Hughes, unreal that a left back would pop up there to grab a goal, rumour has it that Ben had to be treated for a severe nosebleed for being that high up the pitch The No16 was Gian Luca ?? can't remember his surname sorry And yes I agree, defo a game of 2 halves

My personal view; it was an enjoyable game played at a good hectic pace in atrocious conditions. Lovely well worked opening goal from the Oak lads that sat Town back on their heels for the rest of the first half but what a change in the second period. Town came out following a few harsh words and had taken the lead before I had time to finish my half time cuppa! Credit to Mile Oak however when they grabbed a second to equalise. Town however then started to pull away and take the game by the scruff of the neck. Thought the best of the last three was when Town burst down the left and beat the full back before squaring inside to the onrushing Town player who buried it hard and fast in the corner. Town's last came about because of the conditions with the ball hanging in the wind before dropping over the good young Oak Keeper's grasping hands. Well worth my afternoon although perhaps the score slightly flattered Town who undoubtedly did enough to win on their second half showing alone. Isn't it about time some of these Town lads were given a chance in the front side because they know how to win!!

Surely Mile Oak's first goal was from a penalty awarded for one of their players being held down from a corner, rather than "well worked"?

Sorry Grimrich I must have had a brainstorm, with confusion reigning supreme. Of course it was just as the ref was getting in to gear in a determination to be just a little 'over fussy'

Talking about 'over fussy', what was going on about Wilf's vest? - the sleeves were yellow after all! And could the ref not have explained to the bench why he caused Wilf to return to the dressing room (to everyone's consternation?) Expasperating at the time. But in retrospect, quite comical really

What was even more funny was the ref was wearing a white vest under his top that showed underneath his black top , talk about pot kettle and black , and when this was kindly pointed out to him by another fully qualified ref ,he spent the whole match pulling the white sleeves up under his black ones lol, On another subject does everyone think its fair for the sussex fa to award the sussex intermediate cup semi final to be played at east court , east grinsteads home ground , and our opponants in the semifinal ? surely thats not right is it ?
