Town 4 Haywards Heath 0
HT 1-0
In a match that was closer than the scoreline suggests Town defeated their second-placed rivals at the Saffrons to be crowned champions of the South East Counties Womens Football League
Town took their chances whereas Haywards Heath were goalshy despite some impressive players and good build-up
We were honoured by a full complement of ref and linesmen, and a crowd of about 60-70, many from Haywards Heath
The early stages were closely fought with barely a shot on goal. After 15 minutes the Town no 9 burst through, beat the goalkeeper and had the goal at her mercy. She appeared to control an awkward bounce with her chest and slotted the ball home. The referee disallowed the goal, however, ruling that she had handled the ball.
In the 30th minute, the number 14 opened the scoring for Town and that is how it stayed at half time
Town were a lot more assertive in attack in the second half, but Haywards Heath were still menacing in midfield, but ineffective in front of goal. In the 70th minute, the number 10 increased the lead and 5 minutes later Town were awarded a penalty following an unfortunate handball by the Haywards Heath no 12 when she was on the ground. The no 14 duly fired the ball home but the ref ordered a retake due to encroachment in the area by Town players. The number 14 stepped up again and put the penalty in exactly the same place - the bottom left corner.
In the dying seconds the Town number 12 burst through and completed the scoring with an excellent lob
I'm sorry that I do not know the names, but perhaps someone will help me out
An entertaining game, and the pitch was starting to get damp after the final whistle (with champagne!). I left some time after 4 o'clock, and the party was only just beginning.........................
