Report from the Crawley Down Gatwick FC web-site
The Anvils continued their losing streak at Eastbourne Town on Wednesday evening.
The Anvils continued their losing streak at Eastbourne Town on Wednesday evening. Losing 0-6 to the side anchored at the bottom of the table.
Traffic delays caused the late arrival of the team before the Kick off which didn't help with the warm up before the match. Eastbourne Town with several new players in their squad looked impressive with their attacking display, whilst the Anvils seemed lethargic and out of salts in contrast. EB went ahead after just 3 mins through Richard Greenfield with their first attack of the match and laying down their determination to put every effort into winning this match.
Although the Anvils competed Eastbourne Town looked far more composed on the ball and always looked the more likely to add further to their account. On 29 mins Dave Soloman had to be replaced for The Anvils after becoming unwell and two goals in quick succession on 35 & 39 mins effectively killed off the game. HT 3-0 EB
Another enforced substitution had to be made at HT with Anthony Storey replacing Allan Tait. On 57mins Anvils Centre Half Martin Dynan received his marching orders giving away a penalty which Ashley Robinson scored with ease. Anvils now down to 10 men had to reshuffle at the back to compensate for the loss of Dynan and EB capitalised immediately with two further goals on 59 & 62 mins to make it 6-0 with 30 mins still to go.
A real hammering was now on the cards but the Anvils 10 men started to put a bit more of a work rate into their game and came close a few times and could have reduced the deficit before the end.
The result continues the Anvils slide down the table and adds a further headache for the Management team to try and resolve.
