Providing this Sx Senior cup tie gets underway on Wednesday (rain is forecast during the day) John Lambert will have a difficult job in cobbling together a team from those players who are staying ,and not suspended or injured, new arrivals who are not cup-tied, and members of our reserves who are considered good enough to step up to County league standard football. Rye are an extremely useful team holding a mid table position. Not in danger of relegation but well off the pace for promotion. Many of their players will be easily recognised. Nessling, Archibald, Strevett, Lockyer and Billings all played under Danny Bloor. Up front they have Ade Olurunda who started the season with Lewes. This season Rye have beaten Crawley Down Gatwick 2-0, lost 3-2 to Chipstead in the FA cup and only lost by a 90th minute goal to runaway County league leaders East Preston in the FA trophy. For our supporters it will be a chance to see what sort of footballing opponents we can expect next season if we fail in "The Great Escape".

Unfortunately the rains came as forecast causing this tie to be postponed until Weds Feb 5th. This means that Towns next spare mid-week date is March 12th, so if we progress in this competition, or have more bad weather, we look like having a huge pile-up of fixtures. Town are away to Merstham this Saturday and home to Horsham next Wednesday and we desperately need at least 4 points from these two games to give us some breathing space in the relegation dogfight.
