Apart from result, don't know aything about game. Nothing in it for us, but Godalming in play offs.
Again mystified by managment's policy on team selection. Mr Bloor was quoted in the local rag as saying he was going to field the strongest possible side. I would like to ask him why that was, when he was quite willing to field a below par side in recent home games. If he wanted a suitable opportunity to try out young players, the last away game would seem the obvious choice. Instead he chose to short change the home crowd at the Saffrons, who pay good money and are entitled to see the best available team.
Totally separate thought: we had 3 home games on 3 Saturdays running, and if Croydon hadn't gone, that would have been 4 in 5. Something wrong with the leagues's computer methinks.

I must thank you for keeping me so amused throughout the season. Your observations have been good value and have shown you to be well versed in the decision making processes at this level.......I have often thought the club would have done really well with you in charge instead of Danny Bloor, and others have agreed with me!!
I must be in the minority then in thinking we have improved enormously this year with a group of players that may be among the best that have represented the club for a while. The team beat Bognor, ran Whitehawk close and gave many, many very good performances throughout the season, home and away. Given less injury to the likes of Curd and Elliott and Percival the team could well have ended in a higher league position than they did. In bringing through the youngsters from the youth age group, Danny and Simmo etc have shown themselves to be forward thinking and thoughtful in how they have managed to do it.
Greater consistancy would be something that needs to be brought to book next year but I believe Danny Bloor knows that. As for the 'playing your strongest team' comments, a manager always does and Danny is no exception. The 'shortchanging' as you put it has seen a huge rise in attendances this season, a much better playing record, some terrific games and lots of excitement.....all for the price of a couple of pints or, in most cases, even less. It would seem the home faithful have been given fantastic value and plenty of bang for their buck.
Curds goal and the performance and win over Bognor was worth all the seasons admissions in one go!!!
Godfrey played in goal the other week as Thorpe had a slight pull.....former Albion stopper, highly thought of at Town and what, you think it a liberty to play him??? Earlier it was you, I think, that was championing getting the reserves to play to see if they are up to Ryman League standard!! Cake and eat it???
As for May and Elliott running in the Marathon and meeting with your displeasure......shame on you! Both ran supporting fantastic charities that may well be much more close to their hearts than you or I would know......Elliott couldn't move for 3 days afterwards......much credit to them both and they ran with the blessing of the management and the Club. To their credit that they did.
I've not seen one word on this forum praising 17 year olds Joe Summerbell or Max Hollebone. Both local boys, both have come through the youth set up and both have broken through to the first team set up as the season came to an end. Both have acquitted themselves very well at this high level of non league football. There was no 'trying out' about it as, if the management didn't think it right for them, I guess they wouldn't have earned the chance! Hollebone is an England Colleges international and Summerbell has taken to it like a duck to water!! Well done Danny and Simmo......another job well done!!
My guess is, that like so many, you are keen and quick to critisise, as is your right, without a full knowledge or understanding of what you are commenting on......but, hey, that's football for you! It's what makes it all such fun.
I return to my first point to thank you for such amusement through the season and to say I look forward to next season's observations. I have really enjoyed the season, Danny and Simmo have done well and there's more improvement to come..... but I write as someone who is positive about the progress achieved and promised, as opposed to other contributors who only ever moan!!

I have always said that it falls to those who speak candidly to be accused of negativity. It goes with the territory and we have to accept it. And there is always this strange idea that unless you can do the job in question you should not criticise those who do.
I'd like to see the statistics that show a 'huge' rise in attendances, but I will say that the team deserve much better support than they actually receive. There have been a few good performances, but many poor ones. For every 'Bognor' there were probably 2 'Burgess Hills', if you can recall that game. I was unstinting in my praise for Mr Bloor and the team for the Bognor performance, but there were not in all honesty many like that.
By his own admission, Mr Bloor recently introduced reserves and younger players for home matches. He then went on to say he would play his strongest team away to Godalming. He got it the wrong way round. If Thorp had a slight pull, then why was he named as substitute ? Half fit players on the bench is not good practice. No, I have never said the reserves should be tried at first team level. What I did suggest (as did others) was that the reserve team manager might be worth a trial as first team manager. The problem is not with the players but with the manager. Mr Bloor is always saying he will keep to a small first team squad, but then goes off and recruits more experienced players. This is when younger players could get their chance naturally.
I have no problem with players running marathons. What I object to is when this takes priority over football. They are semi-PROFESSIONAL footballers who should put that first. But what would be the problem with playing football on Saturday and running a marathon on Sunday for a fit young man ? If Mr Elliot could not move for 3 days, I would suggest he had not trained up to it. I train each Monday with several marathon runners, and there they are, training hard, 24 hours later and you would never know.
I think you may have contributed to the season's review in the Herald. Not sure how it has been a year on year improvement for Mr Bloor. 2 and a half years ago he inherited what he described as a good squad, proceeded to dismantle it and finished bottom, only to be saved from relegation by the demise of a Welsh club. And in 2 full seasons, he has yet to do as well as Mr Colwell, who, unlike Mr Bloor, had no budget to work with. You speak of amusement, but I was falling around laughing when I got to the end of the article which predicted a promotion push next season. Pigs might fly one day, but i doubt it.
